Performance and Film (7mins 7 Seconds)

Covid has prevented us from using many simple gestures and non verbal communication. These gestures articulate emotion and intimacy, and without them, family members become isolated from one another.

My interactions with these previously filmed performances were spontaneous and a way of granting perspective between making impulsively and intuitively. I considered the value of motherhood and the dependency of childhood, nuture, need and support whilst performing these absent interactions of touch. This also helped me consider the importance of community networks, support and care that have felt fragile during the pandemic. Although, I have not yet decided on a time frame, I plan to repeat it periodically as I feel that this durational approach will address how its meaning will change over time.
